New Meat/Food slicer! yippee!

I LOVE kitchen gadgets and appliances. Some women are offended when their husbands give them kitchen items for presents....I LOVE it!
For no reason other than he knows I've been wanting one; my husband brought home a meat/ food slicer for me last week! I was thrilled!
He had been to Cabelas and bought a "few" things; hmmm, I wonder if this was a distraction so I wouldn't notice the new fishing reels, nets and more?!
Either way, I was excited to use it, but what was going to be the first project? I didn't have any meat to be sliced, and I wanted to wait to slice my huge brick of cheese until I was in the mood to package it after slicing, sooooo.......
Potato chips! We receive 100 lbs of potatoes every year from relatives, and I have a hard time using them all. But now, I have a new use for them! Homemade potato chips! I have to say that they are WAY better than store bought, and when my 6 and 9 yr old tell me they are delicious, I know I have a winner! The best part is that they are void of all those preservatives you find in the store bought brands, yuck! Potatoes, vegetable oil, and sea salt, that's it!

My slicer is wonderful! It's got a heavy metal base to keep it from sliding around, a 7 inch blade, great safety features, and the slicing widths vary to whatever width you need. Did I mention its easy to clean too? I can hardly wait to use it for my huge cheese brick that we always get from CostCo- you know the one I'm talking about! I'm planning on presclicing it into thin slices for sandwiches, then sealing it with my vacuum sealer. No more trying to cut a thin slice, which I can never do! I can also slice my veggies and package them(I'm thinking cucumbers especially) to use in salads. I'm so excited! I only sliced about four medium to large potatoes and it made a ton of chips! The problem was that the traffic through the kitchen quickly diminished the amount! I could barely keep up with the hands stealing them off the plate! I bagged the rest into sandwich bags, ready to grab and go for lunches or snacks.
So excited to have a "junk" food that is a little healthier than the store bought version. Next time, I'm trying the microwave version, no frying in oil, and see if they taste as good....then they will really be healthier!
